Hope, what we hope for, in the United States, often is not "Biblical" hope any more that the faith we profess is biblical.-- I hope to walk a path where I am not a fool. I hope that everyone will love me or at least the will not ridicule me publicly. I hope that I will not have to suffer. I hope... I hope... I hope... And the list goes on... And often these are the things to which I hope. And then there are times... oh those sweet times, when my hope is in JESUS. When I grasp the reality of a God that has me in the palm of His hand. There, in those moments, that seem so rare, I long to be. Oh, I want more and more moments like those. Those eternal seconds, in the mist of pain and hardship or in rejoicing, is the "living hope"(1 Peter 1:3). This hope is hope that God is glorified when I am... a fool; loved, hated or ridiculed; suffering; rejoicing; weeping; laughing; mourning... I hope... I hope... I hope... And the list goes on...
