Why I Bike MS
Why I’m Moving Forward
Living with MS means living with uncertainty. Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with more than twice as many women as men contracting the disease. There is no cure, and MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S., and 2.5 million worldwide.
When it comes to MS, only two things are certain:
- That another American is diagnosed every hour of every day.
- A whole lot of people are joining the movement toward a world free of MS. Including me.
Why I Ride
I registered for the Bike MS: Cox Atlanta Ride 2011 to fulfill a personal challenge, and also to help the National MS Society’s Georgia Chapter fund research, advocate for change, and help people with MS and their families lead powerful lives. I believe in the work they do, and I want to be part of it. That’s why I’ve registered once again to participate in the
Bike MS: Cox Atlanta Ride 2012.
As I began training for the ride in 2011, I came down with Shingles and this kept me from being able to train for about a month. Once I was on my bike, the training was slow but as I built up my personal strength and stamina to ride I began reaping a world of benefits for myself. I ended up losing some weight and my doctor took me off of my high blood pressure medicine.
But more than the personal benefit I reaped, I know I helped make a difference in the lives of so many others who suffer with MS on a daily basis. I’m happy to be a part of the team “Amy’s Armor” and I ride in honor of and support of Amy Nash as she battles MS. She and her family have been a true inspiration to me. Biking to fight against MS is small way I can give to support her and the many others who live with MS and will be diagnosed with MS in the days to come. Can I count on your help?
Let’s Move Forward Together
Bike MS is a great challenge but also great fun! Funds raised go toward research aimed at treating and eventually curing MS. They also provide education, information, direct financial aid and scholarships to individuals and families living with MS in our community.
I’m helping the National MS Society move forward toward a world without MS. Please join me by making a donation or joining my team!
