trains!

Got to love ’em… not me!  I can’t stand ’em!

My Jeep is down… in the shop. I am patiently waiting for it to be fixed.  It’s already a stressful thing just to put your car in the shop.  I found out today that it will not be ready until Thursday.  Ouch!  But no worries – right?  Almost, I still have to pay for the thing to get fixed.  That’s a bit of a worry.  I can wait to get it back.  And patiently I will wait.

Funny thing happened on the way home today.  I have no ride so my good friend… Let’s just call him “Tony” for the sake of the story.

We were driving home and I was explaining how I typically go home.  That’s not the way we went home.  So we continued on toward the construction zone!  Guess what appeared in the midst of the already bad traffic?  If you guessed a train… no a slow moving train you are right.

Well, Tony turned around to go a different way to my house.  (The way I would have gone in the first place). We are heading down Mission Rd and guess what!  That same train was headed straight for Mission Rd!  A funny thing happened –  we got caught again.  He starts to turn around – AGAIN.  I said, “Listen you of little patience.  Just chill for a minute…” then the brainstorm for my next thought to share with you happened in that moment.  I told him he would be in the center of the story.  I believe he said, “I can’t stand you!”

Often times God allows slow downs in our lives.  He may even block the road for a minute or two.  But it’s all for our good.  It could be for any number of reasons.  It could be he is wanting to teach us something.  It may be to let us have a quite moment for whatever reason.  It could be that we are getting ahead of Him.  Maybe He is protecting us from something else up ahead…

Whatever the reason for the little slow downs in life.  There is a need to take them in stride and see what God has in store.  I know that can be painful at times.  James says, “But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”

  1. I woke up on my birthday with having dreamed this very thing.

I dreamed That I was at the RR crossing on Main Street, waiting. And in my dream I said “well this is a really strange dream to be having, waiting on a train”. Then, in my dream I heard a voice that said, “It is like you waiting on Me.” I knew in my dream it was God speaking. It haunted me the rest of the day, “what am I waiting on You for?, what are You doing, what am I not learning….”

Then on Thursday morning I read this blog. It has taken me the rest of the week, since I read your post, to get up the courage to say some thing about it. My birthday was Tuesday you wrote this on Wednesday. What does it mean?…

    “WAIT!”

    But, “I hate waiting…”

  2. Roye says:

Randy, checkout Psalm 40. Waiting is not a fun thing to do. David talks about waiting patiently for the Lord… He inclined and heard my cry. Although he may have been patiently waiting he did a bunch of crying… seeking… petitioning God. Just a thought from the surface of this chapter.
